genital warts in malesGenital wart is the outward symptoms of a viral infection in male, which can affect urethra, penis, rectal area, and scrotum. Genital wart may be soft and look like raised area with a surface that can be smooth or rough. Genital warts in males are difficult to contact since they are covered by pubic hair.

American Academy of Physicians opines that there are several options available for the treatment of genital warts. The objective of the treatment is to prevent spreading of the virus and reduce the physical symptoms. To choose the best method to remove the genital wart, the Doctor will consider certain factors like size, location and number of warts.

Doctor’s who are treating genital wart patients may adopt any of the following techniques:

Cryotheraphy – removing male genital warts with liquid nitrogen

TAC (Trichlororacetic acid) – a chemical compound used to remove genital wart

Electrocautery – burning off male genital wart with electric current.

Laser therapy – using an intense light to remove genital warts ( Laser treatment for male genital wart can be very expensive and also not available in all clinics )

Those who want to be treated in the privacy of their home, the prescribed treatment for male genital warts are Imiquimod cream and Podofilox cream. These creams are to be repeatedly applied daily for weeks.

However, treatment for genital wart does not constitute its cure. Because, the treatment removes the genital warts but the virus i.e. HPV remains in tact. And, as long as the HPV is present, the genital wart may recur anytime and would warrant treatment thereof once again. Condoms won’t guard against genital wart because the infected spot may not be covered by condom. Only guard is, therefore, never to have any skin contact with the infected tissue.

Since there are so many treatments are available for genital warts, it is advisable to consult the Doctor before treatment.
