Genital warts are caused by human papilloma virus like all other warts. There is similarity in look between genital wart and any other wart. It may lie dormant for years in the body and only surfaces later if the person has the HPV present. If the pregnant woman has wart in her cervix or genitalia, the wart may spread to the child with serious future consequences. In all such cases, the doctor must be told about the presence of wart or even proneness to its presence.
