Genital Warts in Women
Genital warts are caused by human papilloma virus like all other warts. There is similarity in look between genital wart and any other wart. It may lie dormant for years in the body and only surfaces later if the person has the HPV present. Some women have the HPV present but they do not have genital wart or any wart present in their body. Funnily, some women may have them in their body but never noticed them.
Genital warts are transmitted through anal, oral and vaginal sex. Possibilities of having genital warts increases, if one indulges in unprotected sex or having number of partners in sex orgies. However, even after using condoms one may contract genital wart since wart may be anywhere in the vaginal area or in anus
Women become potential source for contacting the virus, if she has the genital wart in her cervix, which is not noticeable. Sometimes the warts are so small and miniscule pinhead size that it is not even felt. The warts in the vaginal or cervix region is left unattended, it may turn cancerous. A doctor may do a pop smear test to determine the presence of any genital warts in women’s genitalia.
Presence of wart in women’s genitalia or cervix is dangerous for women who want to become pregnant. Warts may go away all its own after sometime. But during pregnancy they are hazardous. If the pregnant woman has wart in her cervix or genitalia, the wart may spread to the child with serious future consequences. In all such cases, the doctor must be told about the presence of wart or even proneness to its presence.
